Omniplan 1.6 Beta 2 Released!

posted by Skwirl on 07.29.08 @ 5:37 pm

Hey everybody, OmniPlan 1.6 Beta 2 is ready for public beta testing!

We fixed some more leveling bugs that could overload resources and cause infinite loops, a regression bug that caused work schedules to be shifted, some issues with importing Microsoft Project files, and made the fill color on Gantt bars in images and printouts match more closely to what’s rendered on-screen.

Please keep in mind that this release is still under development. There are many more changes in this version which you can read about in our complete release notes here.

Your feedback will help us improve the software and we apologize if it breaks your computer, corrupts your files, and ruins your weekend.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments. You can contact us directly via our support page or by using the Send Feedback feature in your copy of OmniPlan.

OK, enough chit-chat, you can download the beta here!

It’s alive! OmniOutliner 3.7 beta 1 is here, now with QuickLook!

posted by dmo on 07.28.08 @ 11:00 am

I know things have been rather quiet on the OmniOutliner front, but 3.7 beta 1 is now available! Highlights include:

  • QuickLook support - It’s dynamically created with XSLT using the same transform as the dynamic HTML export. This means you can expand and collapse sections in the preview.
  • New high-res icons for 10.5
  • OmniFocus protocol support so you can script or type in OmniFocus links

There’s also a number of bug and crash fixes included. A big one being that we’ve changed how backup saves are handled for file wrappers (the default file format). The backup copy will now be saved to the hidden file .OOBK inside the wrapper. This is to work around a 16 MB file size limit that was discovered. If you’ve edited your document to be a flat file, it will still save to the resource fork of the file with the 16 MB size limit.

You can download the beta here and read the full release notes here. And as always, if you have any feedback or bug reports, please contact our Support Ninjas using the Send Feedback option under the Help menu or at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com

OmniGraffle 5.0.1 is now available

Final!

(Well, not too much of a surprise in that there were no significant changes from beta 5 to the release candidate, but hey)

Things have gone well for this release at the end, and the 5.0.1 release is live and ready for download. So, enjoy!

What’s next for OmniGraffle? Good thing you asked, because I, as product manager, have the answer to this question. We got a fairly hefty set of changes to the Japanese localizations a little too close to the final release of 5.0.1, so we’ll be turning this right around with a 5.0.2 beta very shortly. OmniGraffle 5.1 looms in the far distance, and there will be lots of things to peruse in that release.

OmniPlan 1.6 Beta 1 Released!

posted by Skwirl on 07.17.08 @ 3:44 pm

Hey everybody, OmniPlan 1.6 Beta 1 is ready for public beta testing! If you saw the Sneaky Peek announcement but wanted to hang back for the beta, now is the time!

Please keep in mind that this release is still under development. There are many changes in this version which you can read about in our complete release notes here, but some of the highlights of OmniPlan 1.6 (for those of you who didn’t check out the Sneaky Peek) include:

  • Importing Microsoft Project 2007 is now supported.
  • Dragging on the Gantt chart no longer gets stuck with some third party mouse input drivers (Wacom tablet mouse and Synergy keyboard/mouse sharing software, to name two).
  • Fixed a number of rounding errors that resulted in slightly incorrect or weirdly formatted time spans (”1h 1s”, or “59m 60s” instead of “1h”).

In OmniPlan 1.6 Beta 1, we fixed a bug where undoing changes to resource assignments for fixed duration tasks resulted in incorrect duration and effort, as well as corrected some minor rounding errors in leveling that resulted in a rare infinite loop. We also fixed code that was intended to find and correct the problem that sometimes caused bad resource allocation when the assigned resource has no normal working hours in their schedule.

OmniGraffle 5.0.1 release candidate 1 is now available

So, a funny thing happened to me on my way to writing the release notes: There weren’t any to write up.

Yep, no changes since the release of beta 5, so I guess that’s why they call these thing release candidates.

As always, the beta page awaits. No link to the release notes, as they’re kind of boring this go around.

OmniFocus for iPhone arrives

posted by Ethan on 07.10.08 @ 11:54 am

The Omni Group is proud to announce the birth of a new bouncing baby app: OmniFocus for iPhone. Don’t let its size fool you. It may fit in your pocket, but it’s got all the same classy and nifty that you get with OmniFocus for Mac. For instance:

  • Full featured as a stand alone iPhone app, or…
  • Sync wirelessly with OmniFocus 1.1 on your Mac (via MobileMe or generic WebDAV)
  • Same powerful management of your projects, contexts and actions
  • Easy access to special lists such as Due Soon, Overdue, and Flagged

We figured that as long as we were building an iPhone app, we should take advantage of some of the neat stuff you can do on the phone. Here are some of the iPhone-only features that are shipping in the application right now:

  • Dynamic location-aware action lists: Let OmniFocus for iPhone put together a list of actions that can be accomplished near to your current location!
  • Photo capture: Save quick snapshots to your OmniFocus inbox. If you’re using sync, these will show up in OmniFocus on your Mac.
  • Voice notes: Sometimes it’s just faster to record a quick voice note to yourself.

There’s more information and links to the App Store on the OmniFocus for iPhone page. Also, our very own Michaela has put together a great intro video for OmniFocus for iPhone. If you’re curious about the application and would like to see more before purchasing, check it out now. It’s a 26MB 15MB download so you might want to option-click that link to start it downloading rather than wait for the page to load it in fully.

OmniGraffle 5.0.1 beta 5 is now available

Ooh, so close. Another fine beta release for your perusal, we’ve got some important Visio support fixes in place and addressed some more bad crashing behavior this go around.

So, for those of you who aren’t busy sneaky peeking the OmniFocus 1.1 release, you may find the OmniGraffle 5.0.1 beta 5 disk images at our beta page, and as always, the full release notes as well.

Cheers!

OmniPlan 1.6 Sneaky Peek 1 Released!

posted by Skwirl on 07.02.08 @ 3:51 pm

Hey everybody! We’ve been hard at work on an update to OmniPlan 1.5.1 and wanted to ask for some brave volunteers to take OmniPlan 1.6 Sneaky Peek 1 for a spin.

Please keep in mind that this release is still under development and the Sneaky Peek designation means it hasn’t been tested as much as our public betas have. There are many changes in this version which you can read about in our complete release notes here, but some of the highlights of this version include:

  • Importing Microsoft Project 2007 is now supported.
  • Dragging on the Gantt chart no longer gets stuck with some third party mouse input drivers (Wacom tablet mouse and Synergy keyboard/mouse sharing software, to name two).
  • Fixed a number of rounding errors that resulted in slightly incorrect or weirdly formatted time spans (”1h 1s”, or “59m 60s” instead of “1h”).

Your feedback will help us improve the software and we apologize if it breaks your computer, corrupts your files, and ruins your weekend. To quote the OmniPlan Sneaky Peek page, “Beyond this point there be dragons…”.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments. You can contact us directly via our support page or by using the Send Feedback feature in your copy of OmniPlan.

If you understand the risks and still want to give our Sneaky Peek a try, you can download it here.

OmniGraffle 5.0.1 beta 4 is now available

posted by Joel on 06.19.08 @ 5:22 pm

WWDC has come and past, and we’re all back and situated back home, and have another beta release for you all.

On a rather important note, it turns out that the beta 3 release had a nasty Unique Graphic ID bug in it, as a matter of fact it wound up getting fixed on the couches or bean bag chairs of Moscone West last week (or in that general vicinity). So, if you were using OmniGraffle 5.0.1 beta 3 then I encourage you to get this release.

We’ve fixed a few other annoyances as well, you can read the release notes at the venerable OmniGraffle beta page.

Cheers!

OmniGraffle 5.0.1 beta 3 is now available

posted by Joel on 06.06.08 @ 8:31 am

Before all the engineers here pop off to San Francisco next week for WWDC, we’ve managed to get another beta release of OmniGraffle 5.0.1 out the door, in much the same manner as a well-known archaeologist grabbing his hat at the very last minute before impending doom.

Well, at least that’s the way I like to think of it.

As for this release, there’s not much to say other than “work continues” (which is a phrase commonly uttered during weekly status update meetings). We’ve fixed up a couple more crashes, shored up AppleScript support for the new features in 5.0, and fixed a few other bugs.

As usual, the disk images are available for download at our OmniGraffle beta page, and as always we’ve documented the changes at the historical release notes page.

Cheers, and we’ll see you at WWDC if you’re headed down there as well.
