OmniGraffle 5.2.1 is now available

posted by Joel on 10.29.09 @ 8:26 am

The last of the troubling little issues when running in Mac OS X 10.6 have been addressed and passed muster, so it’s time for this release to go final.

Please do go see all about it at the historical release notes page, and the beta page is closed for the meantime, the download page is the place to be.

OmniGraphSketcher 1.1 public beta

posted by dave on 10.28.09 @ 2:27 pm

Today we’re happy to announce the public beta of OmniGraphSketcher 1.1. You can grab it via the beta download page.

So what’s new? A lot! We had a great response to OmniGraphSketcher 1.0 and have been working hard on UI tweaks to make the graphing experience even better, as well as a few frequently requested features:

  • Error Bars: We’ve been hinting at this for a while, but OmniGraphSketcher can now detect parallel data series and automatically convert them into error bars, as well as create error bars with user-specified offsets.
  • Support For LinkBack: Now when you “Copy as Image” and paste your graph into OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner or any other Linkback-compliant application, you can double-click the pasted image to edit it directly in OmniGraphSketcher. Saving your changes in OmniGraphSketcher will update the linked graph image.
  • Tracing: The OmniGraphSketcher canvas can now be made transparent, allowing you to position the graph window over an existing document and transfer data simply by drawing.

What about those UI tweaks? We’ve adjusted many tool behaviors for consistency within the application, as well as across our product range. Option-drag now duplicates graph objects, the tab key cycles through labels, and snapping works better in all tools (and when you’re trying to snap both to an object and to vertical/horizontal). It’s also much easier to add a new point to an existing series: just select a line and one or more free-floating points, then click one of the line-type buttons on the style inspector.

There’s a ton more stuff listed in the beta release notes, so you’ll have something to read while your download finishes. We look forward to your feedback!

OmniOutliner 3.9.3 final released

posted by Derek on 10.27.09 @ 6:38 pm

OmniOutliner 3.9.3 is now available! All HTML exporters and Paste with Current Style should now be working correctly. And for the first time in… years? The help file has been updated to reflect the changes in past versions! Currently only the English version has been updated, but we will do another release as soon as the localized versions are ready.

There’s also a couple of other bug fixes in this release. Please see the release notes for full details and when you’re ready, download it manually or use the built-in software updater. As always, please contact us using Help -> Send Feedback or at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com if you run into any problems or have a question. Thanks!

OmniGraffle 5.2.1 release candidate 1 is now available

posted by Joel on 10.22.09 @ 8:36 am

We let things bake for a little while during the release of OmniGraffle 5.2.1 beta 2, we just wanted to make sure that there wasn’t another shoe left to drop when running under Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and things are looking pretty good, so here’s a release candidate for you all.

Peruse the historical release notes page, and find the release candidate at the not-so-properly-named beta page.

OmniOutliner 3.9.3 beta 2 is now available for download! Just a couple bug fixes this time, most notable is fixing the issue with attachment tags appearing too small after launch. Also, we’re currently in the process of updating the help file which is long overdue! Only the English version has updates at the moment, localization will come once it’s been finalized. If you notice any outdated info in the help, please let us know in case we don’t catch it.

You can read the full release notes here or head over to the download page. If you encounter any problems with this release, please reach us at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com. Thanks!

Gathered from around the webernet for your viewing pleasure, here are a few links that may be of interest to you, O Faithful Omni Blog Reader!

• A six-part series of short video tutorials for OmniGraffle at Alexander Interactive.

• At Konigi.com, version 3 of their OmniGraffle Wireframe Stencils.

• For those who manage web development projects, a free OmniPlan template from Simon Surtees, and a method for using OmniPlan to price a freelance web dev job from Journal-ism.

• From John Kendrick’s blog, a post on using people as contexts in OmniFocus. (As for me, I only have one personal context in my OmniFocus document, titled “Clive Owen”. Its related actions: “Heave wistful sigh while absentmindedly twirling hair”, “Rent Sin City . . . again“, “Doodle I ♥ Clive on Trapper Keeper”, etc.)

• A nicely balanced account of Jeremy’s experience with both OmniFocus and Things.

• And just for fun and general awesomeness, a recipe for peanut butter bacon cookies. Duuuuuuuuuuuuude.

OmniGraffle 5.2.1 beta 2 is now available

posted by Joel on 10.01.09 @ 3:40 pm

We found a handful of bugs since the release of version 5.2.1 beta 1 a couple of weeks ago, and felt that they should be addressed post-haste, as it were. A couple of crash fixes have been made, an error thrown when pasting in data from OmniOutliner got looked at, and some needed tweaking of the multi-touch trackpad code have all been implemented for this beta release.

We encourage you to download and give beta 2 a try (if it’s your proclivity to participate in the beta releases), and as always the beta download page and historical release notes await.

Reminder about Helpify, the OmniOutliner tool for creating help documents

posted by Linda on 09.29.09 @ 10:52 am

Liz, one of our esteemed Test Pilots, was reading Programming Ruby with Cocoa (because this is what the smart people at Omni do in their spare time, probably while I’m watching The Soup and snarfling about how Joel McHale makes fun of them there Kardashian girls, haw haw haw) and noticed a shout-out to Helpify, an Omni/William Van Hecke Joint.

What’s Helpify, you ask? Well, duh, we DID mention it exactly once almost twelve months ago on our blog. I can’t believe you missed it! Next you’ll be telling me how you don’t read “every single post” because “the ones by your marketing person suck”.

As a reminder, Helpify is a cool Python tool our User Experience Lead, Bill, built for formatting OmniOutliner 3 files into help documents. I’m not totally sure if he used actual pythons to assemble it, or what—I’d probably know more about this stuff if I didn’t watch so much crap TV—but apparently it lets you author help contents with automatic formatting, indexing, and navigation. The properly formatted help books can then be dropped into your app.

Remember, in this country, you gotta make the help first. Then when you get the help, you get the power. Then when you get the power, you get the women.

Ahem. Anyway! You can read more about Helpify on Bill’s original post, and download Helpify here.

OmniOutliner 3.9.3 beta 1 now available

posted by Derek on 09.22.09 @ 3:46 pm

OmniOutliner 3.9.3 beta 1 is now available for download! This contains mainly Snow Leopard compatibility fixes and fixes related to Snow Leopard compatibility. Of particular note is that Paste with Current Style should no longer fail under certain circumstances under 10.6 and the HTML and Word (HTML) exporters work again. We also hopefully fixed an issue that’s been reported periodically caused by pasting data that contains style values beyond the range ever expected. This would pop up an alert from the OOLayoutManager and cause people to have to force quit the app.

Please note you will not see this beta in the software update check if you’re running a final version. Betas are opt-in if you’re running a final version and must be manually downloaded. If you’re running a beta version, you will see new betas listed.

You can read the full release notes here or head over to the download page. If you encounter any problems with this release, please let us know at omnioutliner@omnigroup.com. Thanks!

OmniGraffle 5.2.1 beta 1 is now available

posted by Joel on 09.16.09 @ 3:29 pm

It was inevitable. Try as hard as one might, there will always be those one or three bugs that escape notice, and as a result a small maintenance or point release is required.

OmniGraffle is no different in this case, and since the release of version 5.2 last month, we’ve been alerted to a small number of issues having mostly to do with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), so here’s a beta release to resolve said issues.

Read all about it at the historical release notes page, find the beta to download here.
