Ken: So ... if I had OG4 and upgraded right now to OG4Pro, I could get OG5 for $49.95, but if I already own OG4Pro (and, therefore, have nowhere to upgrade), OG5 is going to cost me $99.95? I'm not sure you've thought that through.

Eddie: The way we determined the upgrade price was to let you preserve 2/3rds of the cost of your OmniGraffle 4 Pro purchase by giving it back as a discount. OmniGraffle 4 Pro cost $149.95, and 2/3rds of $149.95 is ~$100, resulting in the upgrade price of $99.95. Of course, that's for the Pro edition; the Standard upgrade is only $39.95.

DGentry: Any purchases of OmniGraffle 4 Pro made now will get a free upgrade to OmniGraffle 5 Pro when it ships, so your cheapest option is to upgrade to OmniGraffle 4 Pro now for $49.95 (taking advantage of the free upgrade to 5).

"...with upgrades from OmniGraffle 4 Professional costing $99.95"

Can you announce the upgrade price from Omnigraffle Pro 3? If not a final price, can you commit that it will not be more than $149.90 (the cost of OG3Pro->OG4Pro plus OG4Pro->OG5Pro) ?

I currently use OG3Pro. I'd like to get OG4Pro soon so I can install Leopard, but not if it will cost me more money than would going directly to OG5Pro next year.

@Doug,
For mind mapping you may also want to consider Xmind Pro, particularly based on the discounted prices at MacUpdate. It’s not as nice looking as Omni’s products, and lacks some features that the Omni products provide (e.g., nice interface, alignment guides, etc.) but so far it has worked for me. I switched to it from Nova Mind since Nova Mind’s upgrade price was too expensive IMHO.

I have to say that I have the same feeling regarding Omni Graffle Pro‘s upgrade fee. $100 is a bit too much for me, so I’ll probably stay with version 4. I think I’ve used it since version 2 or 3, and can’t recall an upgrade being this expensive. :(
Having said that, I love Omni and their products, have recommended them for many years, and currently have OmniOutliner 3 Pro, OmniWeb 5, OmniFocus, and OmniPlan.

Sweet. Now I might as well upgrade to 5 pro, instead of standard then :)

Omnigraffle and my anger has cost me a MacBook Pro. I cannot believe for the life of me that we are now up to version 5 and there is NO COMMAND to "Paste in Place". I got so angry trying to put together a wireframe and copying & pasting elements, that I tossed my MacBook Pro off of my 3rd story balcony.

The upgrade pricing to Pro is, um, a bit steeper than I imagined. But OK. Now to get me to upgrade, how much more robust are you going to make the mind-mapping features of OG5? With OG4, I often find myself looking longingly at MindJet's products, and I still go into Inspiration for quick brainstorming. If I could do more in OG5 with mind-mapping, the upgrade price is no biggie.
