Concerning breakfast foods

Fairly often here at ye olde Omni Group we get breakfast for lunch, and when it occurs there is much rejoicing. I myself am a simple man, eggs and sausage (or bacon: sweet, lovely, bacon) and some form of breakfast potatoes are all I require. Pancakes (or flapjacks or hotcakes) are a special treat for me, and I love them dearly.
So, last week we were fortunate enough to have french toast (a rare delicacy here due to the nature of preparing them) and we all got on with our favorite breakfast foods.
Tom and Brian proved to be big fans of aebleskivers. (Brian claims that they are both a breakfast food and a home defense technology)
Michaela thinks that poffertjes are the best ever, offered in hot-dog style carts in Amsterdam.
Liz in turn started craving maandazi (apparently hailing from Africa, Wikipedia has let me down here).
Much discussion of breakfast potatoes transpired (I like me some home fries, Rowan prefers the Potatoes Deluxe from the Streamliner Diner on Bainbridge Island (where he used to work).
Bill wanted more pancakes, going so far as to recommend pankeggs which some thought involved beer of some kind, Brian pointed out that McMeniman’s stout is used in a recipe at the Kennedy School in Portland.
So, what’s your preference for breakfast goodness? Let us know and we can try to convince Terry to serve it up some time.

Liz points out that the recipe for maandazi is available at http://www.zanzinet.org/recipes/dishes/maandazi.html. She says they’re closer to donuts than anything else American.

I think the lil’ Dutch pancakes are called poffertjes. (And boy are they yummy.)

The Dutch pancakes are called poffertjes, not pottertjes. They’re magic, but not that magic. I think I like Frosties the best, as we don’t get that here in The Netherland, so it’s really a treat

As far as I’m concerned, if it doesn’t come in box that you can read while you consume it, it’s got no business being on the breakfast table.

It’s really funny, how breakfast is different in all those countries. I like grainy-rolls, milk, honey, some “Müesli”, cheese and orange juice- just a typical healthy Swiss breakfast.
And of course we also have croissants - but they are only tasty if they are fresh, so usually I don’t get up early to buy them at my bakery before breakfast

The word is “poffertjes”… May I also suggest Stroopwafels (syrup filled cookies), Hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles) and last but not least very old Dutch cheese (the kind that just breaks up when you try to slice it…Not for the faint of heart among us!). I’ll send you some goodies if you want me to…

I am a friend of a “hearty” breakfast; my recommendation: try varying the sausage, add some black pudding etc.

Typically, the happiness that is McCann’s Irish Oatmeal ( mccanns.ie ), with a lashing of butter (or soy butter).
Exceptionally, all manner of things including easy-over eggs, pancakes/flapjacks, baked goods such as banana bread with aforementioned butter, sauted onions with sliced pre-baked potato {drooling}. Good strong coffee or black tea.

Man, nothing can beat scrambled eggs with fresh Boletus reticulatus mushroom slices in it - the real taste of Slovak mountains!

Everything above is more or less unhealthy! Programmer’s brain need power right at the beginning of their hard working day!
Specialists recommend a mix of whole-grain cereals, low fat milk or low fat cottage cheese, nuts and fruits for breakfast. Believe me it really powers your brain for several hours and is really tasty!

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast, washed down with a glass or two (or three …) of Buck’s Fizz (Orange juice and champagne for anyone who doesn’t know) and good black coffee without sugar.

Scambled eggs, two slices of toast with vegemite and a strong cup of assam tea.

There is always the great Jamaican standby (national dish); Akee and Saltfish — I like it with crisp/thick slices of bacon, tomatoes, and fried breadfruit… Scotch bonnet hot sauce on the side!
Akee is a fruit that if not ripe (or overripe) is poisonous… Makes for a bit of ‘adventure’ first thing in the morning.
Funny though, it tastes great and looks like scrambled eggs when it is prepared.
It is the Caribbean equivalent of Lox and Eggs.
No, I’m not from Jamaica - just fell in love with the country and really like the food…
