Things the upcoming new OmniProduct is not:

• A replacement for Mail
• Capable of producing documents
• Something that costs more than $20
• Anything iPod-related

Well, my speculating friends, what say you now? Moo hoo ha ha!

If this list broke your heart, keep in mind this product isn’t the only new piece of software that Omni has planned for 2006. And yes, we have updates to our existing software, too. We are busy, like beavers…or bees. Or beavers with bees in our mouths so when we talk we shoot bees at you. BUSY!

I say it’s time to send it to your localizers to have a multi-langual version ready on time for release :->

Maybe you are just yanking us, and it is just OmniDiskSweeper 2! Actually, that wouldn’t be a bad thing… integrate some srm yumminess into the app, update the icons and interface a bit…yeah, that’s the ticket!

If you had a replacements for Mail.app and Quicken… I’d buy then sooo fast my legs would fall off ;-)…

I really think it’s OmniChilcare.

No, wait, scratch that. I’d much rather have OmniPresident, a new leader that not only tells the truth (a positive change), but looks good, too! Better than all the competitors out there.

Okay, okay, I’d settle for OmniJob, with a regular paycheck and benefits.

It’s a Quicken replacement.

Perhaps it’s a notebook wrapper for OOP?
Um…maybe it’s a deworming reminder widget for mac-loving cat owners.
Um…perhaps it’s a mini-DVD of the Yes! commercial.
An Omni beermat (coaster for those of us in the US.)
An OmniOldFarmersAlmanac for organizing our planting schedules.

Or a box of Omni-branded CrackerJacks with a real toy prize like they used to have in the 60s…not that I’m reminiscing or anything.

Ohh, how I would like an Omni replacement for Mail.app. And seems I´m not the only one…

Being less than $20, I doubt it’d be a Quicken or Mail replacement. Not that I think Mail is that bad (then again, I used NeXT Mail for over 7 years, so Mail.app is like an old friend). (btw, check out Moneydance — not as flashy as Quicken, but generally pretty good).

I’m guessing some kind of utility. Bookmark organizer/converter (for people switching among Firefox, Safari, OmniWeb, and even the old macIE)? Super-duper address book replacement? Heavy-duty image converter utility? (hey, does MacOSX still have the hooks for automagic file format conversion that we had in NeXTSTEP?)

Along with the next hint, couldja give us a better idea of the timeframe? “Mere weeks” could mean anything between 14 days and 3 months…

A better interface to the address book??

In the early days of the NeXT-Apple fusion, there was an OmniBackup product that used to allow a backup to tape of the disk content.

I am trying to find a “no nonsense” backup application for the Mac, but I have not found anything worth while.

I have Super-Duper, and it is really fantastic for creating whole disk images, but it is not the right tool to backup only some data (photos/documents/preferences/etc..).

I second Moneydance as a Quicken replacement. I switched to it a few months ago (you can import a Quicken QXIF or whatever file, so you don’t lose anything or have to re set-up everything).

I’d still like a Mail.app replacement, if only because I was a mail client junkie for a while (QuickMail, Em@iler, Entourage, PowerMail, Mayberry…).

‘We’ meaning ‘you’. The dancing OmniGuy is just the type of thing to throw a person into therapy.

Ah, yes, OmniBackup. I’ve heard of the name a few times…there might have been some under the table deal why it is no longer around now… I smell conspiracy! But I do second you on that it would be nice to have a new replacement. I tried to use Apple’s Backup utility, but it kept trying to back up the files to the wrong disk! So it is fundamentally useless to me right now. I just use rsync from the command line instead.

Maybe OmniPDF is being re-released! Well, it might not be too overly useful now, but I discovered the name when looking for a decent PS reader a few years ago. But since Preview can convert PS files to PDF now, I’m good.

While I’m happy you’re putting out a new app, I’d really rather see better and further updates to your existing apps. OmniGraffle would be at the top of my list.

And I don’t know about you, Linda, but I might just get more work done if I replaced Mail.app with our new app.

I have confirmation from an Omni engineer that it will be OmniGlitterShirtMaker.

OmniShouldIUpgradeOrWait … what a great idea because everytime I buy something it is upgraded (paid) almost immediately or released at a quarter of what I paid on MacZOT

Does this imply that while THIS PARTICULAR piece of software may not be an iPod related Mail replacement/Word processor that costs more than 20 dollars, that such a product is ALSO, SEPERATELY in development?

Hmmm… OmniCal as a replacement for iCal (and the sad Chronos’ SOHO PIM)?

A palm Conduit for OmniOutliner, that allows us to sync LifeBalance, SplashShopper or ListPro to the OO documents !!

I hope it is OmniBackup. And I hope that it is a P2P backup software, with an open protocol, so you can backup on your friends’ disks.

Well, I see that many more people trust the genius minds at Omni Group to create a real e-mail client (Mailsmith is ridiculous: how come they release a program w/no IMAP support???).
I haven’t though about this before, but a replacement for Quicken would also be great (but I don’t this is now the case). I remember when at my dark age of Windows user that I just really enjoyed Microsoft Money —actually, I still miss it. Quicken is way overhead for someone who’s not living at the US.

It’ll annoy the hell out of the guy working on kinkless GTD but I reckon Omni is going to produce an add on for Outliner to do the GTD thang right.
