The Omni Group expands fighting force of extraordinary magnitude

We’re looking for a couple of good ninjas; support ninjas, specifically.

The jobs section of our website warns that “we have two warm-blooded animals (plus a lot of fish) in the building”, which confuses me greatly. Apparently all this time I’ve been working with iguanas, or possibly skinks. Also, we have one office cat, but maybe we also have a guinea pig, or something? WHY HAS NO ONE TOLD ME OF THE GUINEA PIG.

Anyway. We’re hiring! You must be able to tolerate iguanas, fish, cats, guinea pigs, and probably wallabies in order to work here. Here’s all the relevant info.

(Update: I’ve been informed that birds are warm-blooded. Hmmmm, so that’s what all the squawking from upstairs is…I thought it was an ongoing WoW game that occasionally got out of hand.)

Well I would love a job but I live in NY and am a professional student so I don’t think that would work out…

And how come they are called support ninja’s why not support Umpa Lumpas

How does anyone get any work done with an Atari 800 in the office?

And don’t forget the (marketing) weasel!

I’ve seen your place… I would have been *delighted* to apply (except that I already have a job and that I would most probably never get the proper visa to be allowed to work in this field… ;-) ).

Even though I live two miles away, he no telecommuting bit is a deal killer.

Hm. Seriously considering it.

It is a bit of an improvement over Support Poodle, which was my previous title…

So, when you say that you have to live in Seattle, does that mean you have to live there already? Or does a willingness (and perhaps desire) to relocate work, too?

Oh awesome! I’m gonna send in my resume now! Sweet!

Matt’s question is my question, too! Does a willingness to re-locate count? I’m in Portland currently…

Matt’s question is my question, too! Does a willingness to re-locate count? I’m in Portland currently…

Of course it does, why wouldn’t it?

Because requirement number one states:

You live in Seattle or within commuting distance.

That is, “you live,” not “you will live.” That’s why I was confused.

Well, despite the “No exceptions” I put up when I wrote the job description originally, I’ll take a look at stuff on a case-by-case basis. Someone moving up from Portland is a lot less of a hurdle than someone moving from, say, the east coast.

The basic problem is this: a new job is a big change. Put a new town on top of that, and you have a lot of eggs in one basket.

In the past, we tried it, and the candidate wasn’t happy with the change, so I ended up re-hiring for the position a lot sooner than I like to.

There’s also the issue of how long after the hire we’ll have to wait for the new person to become available. ..

Of course, why anyone would want to leave the far superior town that is Portland to live in Seattle is a whole ‘nother issue. Sigh… if only I could convince Omni to move down south… ;-)

I’m not in the area so I won’t be applying. But I just wanted to write that I love love love OmniGraffle and OmniOutliner. Oh, I trust that you will continue to forge your traditions in the spirit of our ancestors (NeXTStep). And you have the gratitude of Omni software users around the world!

OmniGraffle was much, MUCH fun to play with. I love the attention to detail it provides. Heck, *anyone* can be a graphic artist or UI designer with software like this. Bravo!

When will you guys be calling potential candidates back? Is it already too late to apply?

Hey, I’d second a move to Portland! Yeah, do that. In fact, get rid of the job posting, because I’ll just take the job when you get down here.

I’m preparing my resumé and will send it in even if you don’t, though. Seattle will do, I suppose. A bigger, dirtier Portland. I can live with that.

I think everyone should apply just by the virtue that these OmniFolk can use cool references from movies like Kentucky Fried Movie. Just remember that when you are prepping up your resumé, you must have total concentwation.

…and just be glad that the OmniGroup isn’t located in Detroit. :)

I trust that you will continue to forge your traditions in the spirit of our ancestors

Why else would we be building a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude?

What is Butkus’s official job title?

I realize that Omni is a small company and phone-pestering regarding job openings is discouraged (and I’ve been good!), but I wanted to know if these prestigious and 133t Ninja positions have been filled, or if phone screening had started.

I still see them on the Jobs page, so I’m still hopeful! Hope to hear from you, OmniGoodness!

Positions have not been filled yet; we’re sifting through resumes and doing some initial phone screens. Juggling that at the same time as everything else we have going on is a bit of a task, but I’m working on it. ;-)

This is what I was looking for, glad I found it.
